Counselling & Coaching for Parents
The time during pregnancy and after you give birth is one of the biggest changes in a parent’s life. With perinatal counselling services, I walk alongside you through these changes. I provide practical tools and strategies that make the transition into new parenthood easier and full of joy.
As parents, we all love our children and want what’s best for them. Sometimes it’s hard to know what’s best when our child has challenging behaviours we can’t seem to resolve. As a parent and psychotherapist with years of experience working with challenging behaviours, I work with you and your family to create a plan and give you evidence-based strategies that can help reduce challenging behaviours.
Reasons for Therapy & Coaching
I often meet with parent(s) for one or two sessions before they have their baby. This helps to set them up for a positive postpartum experience. In the first session, we go over your mental health history and create a plan for postpartum success. In the second session, we go through a Postpartum Plan Package you can take home with you.
Are you tired of using methods of punishment that aren’t working with your kids? We get it… as parents it’s so hard to know how to help our little ones with their big feelings and big behaviour. I have years of training and experience working with the most complicated behaviour, and will partner with you to learn more effective ways of changing behaviour. Common behaviours we support parents with: yelling, hitting, noncompliance, tantrums, potty training.
Anxiety & Depression
If you aren’t feeling like yourself after having a baby, please reach out for support. Did you know that 1 in 5 new moms will struggle with a postpartum mood or anxiety disorder? These disorders appear on a spectrum and can look different in every mom. You are not to blame for these feelings and you can feel well again.
I support parents who have children with big worries, and I can give you strategies to help you talk to your children about their worries.
Who are you now that you are a mom? You are still you, but you also are keeping a tiny human alive every day. I can help you rediscover who you are now that you are a mom, we want you to thrive in motherhood.
Child Sleep Concerns
For a time it was working great to have your child sleep in your bed, but now you’re all ready for a change. You want to make sure that your child feels supported during this transition. I work with parents and children to make sure everyone is sleeping well.
One of our core beliefs about counselling is that your time with us is YOUR TIME. Whether you want to come and have a hot coffee and a deeper conversation with a non-biased adult, or if you are looking for very practical tools to help you feel less anxious, we are here for you.
Counselling is your time to work on the goals that you have, so you can fully enjoy your life and deal with the, sometimes, complicated pieces of life.
About Parent Coaching
We trust you are the expert on your child, and that you know your child best. I have experience in behaviour, and together we can find strategies that will work best for your child. Together, we look at your child’s behaviour to understand WHY the behaviour is happening.
Research shows that behaviour doesn’t happen in isolation, and there is always a function of the behaviour. Once we discover this, we come up with a plan that is based on the function of the behaviour to help your child feel their best.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I come to counselling even if I feel good with my mental health?
Yes! Many parents like coming to therapy as a part of their self-care. Counselling is a great time to talk to a non-biased adult about parenthood while drinking coffee (or tea)!
What do your online sessions look like?
When we meet online we “meet” via video chat on a secure online platform. I send you the link for our meeting a few days before we meet. We meet for 50 minutes (same as typical therapy sessions).
What type of “behaviours” have you worked with?
I’ve worked with a wide range of behaviour from young children to adults. Some of these behaviours include: hair pulling, yelling, noncompliance, potty training, transitioning older children to their own bed, tantrums, yelling, etc. If you want to see if I would make a good fit with your family I would be happy to have a 15 minute consult to see how we can work together.
How long do I need to go to therapy or coaching?
This answer is entirely up to you. I see some parents for only one or two sessions, some like to check in monthly, and others I see every week.
Can I bring my baby to session?
Babies in arms are more than welcome to come to counselling with you! 🙂 Let me know ahead of time, and I will make sure I have some baby toys ready for when you get here. I leave this decision up to you.
Are your services covered under insurance?
Many insurance providers cover psychotherapy services, but always check with them to make sure. If you require any additional information from me I’m happy to provide it.
What type of counselling method do you use?
I am diverse in my counselling approach and know that each individual we support is different. Therefore, every individual needs an individualized approach. Some of the methods (or modalities, if you want to be technical :)) that I have been trained in include: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Narrative Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Perinatal Mental Health.
Do you only see parents or would you also see our child?
Great question! In the first session I meet with the parent(s) to learn about their concerns. After this, we create a treatment plan together. For some families this includes us seeing the child individually, and for some it means working exclusively with the parents. Each situation is unique and based off of the needs of your family.
