Happy International Women’s Day!

As a mom of three girls, I often reflect on how I want to raise them.

I want my girls to know they are strong and capable. I want them to feel loved unconditionally. I want them to rest in my love and know that I’m here to support them but not to solve all their problems for them.

I want my 6-year-old to know her leadership is a gift. I want to help her learn how to use this gift in a way that serves her and others well.

I want my sensitive 3-year-old to know her emotions aren't too much. She feels things deeply, and that's ok.

I want my baby to know she is worthy of my curiosity. When she won't sleep, struggles with feeding, or is having a hard day.

I want my girls to hear me talking about other women with respect.

I want them to know that everyone is deserving of love and kindness from us.

Share one body safety rule you have below⬇️!

As a therapist, I have worked with many adults who grew up feeling like they couldn't turn to their parents with their questions about tricky topics. They struggled because their parents felt a deep shame talking about body safety, so they would turn to their peers, look for answers on the internet, or struggle in silence instead.

Because of this, Scott and I have implemented body safety rules in our home; we are teaching our girls about body safety from the start.

I'll never forget the look of pride on my daughter's face when she rode off on two wheels that afternoon. She knew she was capable of doing something new. She just needed us to believe in her.

🥰What if every child heard the message: "I trust you, AND I'll be right here as we figure this out together."

☄️Teaching our kids to trust their internal voice that says, "I can do hard things," is one of the most precious gifts we can give them.

It teaches them:

→How to tune in with their own wants and desires
→To trust when their voice tells them something feels wrong or uncomfortable
→To feel confident trying new things
→How to make confident decisions

Saying: "I trust you know how you feel; tell me more..." is even a protective factor against abuse.

✨If a child knows their parent will listen to them and wants to hear their thoughts, they are more likely to tell their parent when something that makes them feel uncomfortable or unsure happens.
