The journey into motherhood opened our eyes to an area of mental health that needed to be talked about.
Advocate for mothers and their mental health.
During pregnancy, I had countless checkups and was assessed for everything related to my physical health. Mental health was never talked about during these appointments. After having my daughter, I thought anxiety was just a normal part of being a mom. I often wondered if I would always feel overwhelmed, if I would ever sleep again, and if all moms felt the same way. After months of keeping these struggles to myself, I decided to research these feelings. In this research, I found out my struggles could be resolved, and there was help out there. I was also surprised to learn that 1 in every 5 women are diagnosed with a mental health issue after having their baby.
After receiving help, I started to love my new role as a mother. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I felt empowered, and excited by this new journey in life. As a mental health therapist, this journey inspired me to make sure that other women do not struggle in silence.
